Leith one

This project involved the renovation of a one-bedroom Victorian tenement flat located in a conservation area of Leith, Edinburgh. The interior finish of the property had not been altered in decades, so the space was stripped back to modernise the entire flat while restoring its original period features.

  • A key aspect of the renovation was to maximise the functionality of the small property. A bespoke kitchen with custom-made cabinets and hidden storage was installed. To further enhance space efficiency, window seats with concealed storage were built in both the kitchen and the bedroom.

Light played a crucial role in making the small space feel larger. The property, being dual aspect, benefits from both North and South natural light. This was enhanced by implementing light floor finishes and off-white painted walls. The original floorboards were sanded and slightly whitened, all contributing to a brighter, more open feel. This approach not only made the property feel more spacious but also highlighted its period features.
