Overview

This one bedroom flat near Edinburgh city centre was in much need of renovation and was bought by a client wishing to give it a new lease of life. Before being fully redecorated, new kitchen and bathroom suites were installed as well as underfloor heating throughout the property. In addition, walls and floors were lined in high thermal rating insulation and all windows were replaced.

Process

After viewing my Prince Regent Street property, the client approached me to assist with a similar project of hers. During our meetings on site, we discussed the key desires of the client and explored redesign options. With brightness and a connection to the outdoors being high on the wish list, we achieved planning permission to install full height windows and started applying for warrant approval for remove the wall between the kitchen and living room.

Deciding ultimately not to make these changes, the client instead created a bright and open feel to the space with the use of light décor and minimalist design. We chose to build a plywood wall with concealed door to close off a nook in the living room which created ample storage space as well as a striking design feature.
